In recent years, the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs have engaged in some great football matches. The Patrick
Mahomes-Josh Allen headline has consistently drawn attention from the football community during both the regular
season and the playoffs. I’m planning to write another chapter in the continuing story this weekend.
The AFC Divisional Round has been set, with Andy Reid’s Kansas City team defeating the Miami Dolphins on
Saturday and Sean McDermott’s Buffalo team sending the Pittsburgh Steelers home on Monday. Sunday’s game
between the Chiefs and Bills will surely close out the weekend. After December, this is the second gathering.

The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs have played some amazing football games in recent years. The football
community has regularly taken notice of the Patrick Mahomes-Josh Allen headline during both the regular season
and the playoffs. This coming weekend, I intend to create a new chapter in the ongoing narrative. The Kansas City
club led by Andy Reid defeated the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, while Sean McDermott’s Buffalo team defeated the
Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday to set up the AFC Divisional Round. The Chiefs and Bills game on Sunday will
undoubtedly finish the weekend. This is the second meeting, the first being in December.
It’s easy to forget that these same Bills were 6-6 and seemingly headed for anything but the postseason shortly after
the Thanksgiving break. Buffalo has, however, won six straight games since their bye week. That run of play is filled
with a number of notable victories over clubs like the Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, and Miami Dolphins. Actually,
Buffalo’s victory over Miami in Week 18 sealed their conference two-seed position.
The Bills will now play their second straight home playoff game as a result. Mahomes will play an AFC opponent on
the road for the first time ever in the playoffs. As a member of the Reid coaching tree, McDermott is aware of the
advantage this provides his club, but he also understands the battle that lies ahead.
Indeed, McDermott said, “It’s nice that we don’t have to travel.” It’s significant, in my opinion, to play in front of our
supporters once more. We think highly of Andy Reid and his initiative. We’ve fought over the years, and I have no
doubt that this will be our next conflict. You should have seen what they did the other night—they were in control.
We need to get enough sleep, attempt to improve our health if we can, and then get ready to travel once more.”
Regarding ties to the Chiefs, Mitch Morse, a center for the Buffalo Bills, spent his whole rookie deal playing in
Kansas City. He has played in this game numerous times in his nine-year career (five with the Bills and four with the
Chiefs). Similar to McDermott and Allen, he commends the other side for contributing to its recurrence.
“To be honest, these past five or six weeks, we were just trying to stack wins to even have this opportunity,” Morse
stated. “It seems like we always cross paths during the postseason. That team deserves all the credit for producing
some excellent football. When it counts most in the postseason, they play with intensity and skill. At home, it will be
a fantastic task.
These two teams have faced off six times since the 2020 season started. Despite the fact that the Chiefs have won
both playoff games, the series is tied. The most recent one was a thrilling 42–36 overtime victory in January 2022.
Even while neither team seems to be as threatening as they were back then, Sunday night’s pyrotechnics are still
anticipated to be spectacular. James Cook, a running back with the Bills, put it best. “You know, two excellent teams
that are prepared to play? stated Cook. “May the best team win.”
