The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Green Bay Packers 48-32 despite having great expectations for a deep run in the NFL
Playoffs this season.

Fans of the Cowboys were furious that their team let Green Bay score close to 50 points, but as Benjamin Solak of
The Ringer points out, the Cowboys’ defensive woes under defensive coordinator Dan Quinn weren’t exactly out of
the blue:

Dan Quinn has been the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator for 55 games. This season, he had 6 of his 7 worst games by
EPA per drive. During the past 2.5 months, 5 of his worst 7 games in terms of EPA per drive have occurred.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been able to lead the team to some exciting victories this season, but anyone
who is willing to look will be able to see the defensive lapses that have occurred.
Tom Pelissero reports that Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is under fire, despite the fact that his players have
defended him.
According to Pelissero, “My conversations with players don’t tell me that at all, to the fans who think this team has
quit on Mike McCarthy.” It’s been fascinating to listen to them defend him, his way of life, and his leadership both on
and off the field. It’s their responsibility that Mike failed that really sticks out.
Bill Belichick, the former coach of the New England Patriots, is the front-runner to take over as the Cowboys’ coach if
McCarthy is fired. To help Dallas go to the next level, McCarthy may be the best candidate for the position, but he
will require a new defensive coordinator.
