The Pittsburgh Steelers stamped their ticket to the postseason after yet another lackluster campaign that could have easily resulted in an AFC playoff berth. However, they were defeated on the road by a superior Buffalo Bills team captained by quarterback Josh Allen. The Steelers had a dismal season that was an offensive nightmare, yet despite this, they managed to make the playoffs. Pittsburgh’s brass seems to be becoming weary of the same outcomes every year.
Longtime head coach Mike Tomlin made it clear he wants to return for the upcoming season and has the backing of the front office, dispelling rumors that he could be under pressure in Pittsburgh or that he would like to go on.
According to ESPN’s Brooky Pryor, team owner Art Rooney II recently made some intriguing remarks regarding Tomlin that appear to justify the team’s continued confidence in his ability to guide this squad from the sidelines.
“He has the ability to hold a group of twentysomethings’ interest across an entire season and keep them competitive throughout. Mike is here because we believe he can lead us to a championship; otherwise, he wouldn’t be here, Rooney added.
The Steelers’ true issues appear to be with the offensive coordinator and quarterback position, as the team performed poorly on that side of the ball this season and parted ways with Matt Canada during the regular season. Kenny Pickett, a second-year quarterback, didn’t seem to be the solution under center, and the team fired their offensive coordinator during the season. As a result, the organization may look to other possibilities in the NFL offseason, such as bringing in a veteran or another rookie through free agency.
