For the LA Chargers, football is entering a new phase. In the next years, there is a real chance that the Chargers
might contend for a Super Bowl under Jim Harbaugh and his selection of general manager. It never seemed to be
happening with Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco.
Telesco has already secured a new position, while Staley is surprisingly receiving inquiries for interviews during this
offseason. Less than two full months after their 63-21 victory led to Telesco’s firing, the Las Vegas Raiders made the
startling decision to choose him as their next general manager.
For years, Chargers supporters have been appreciative of Telesco’s terrible roster construction, so they are glad he
chose to remain in the division with their biggest opponent. It will be difficult for the Raiders if Telesco has the same
draft record in Vegas as he did in Los Angeles.

On the other hand, it appears as though Telesco is completely changing his ways. Hondo Carpenter revealed on a
recent episode of the Raiders Insider podcast that Telesco’s priorities as general manager of the Raiders were given
to him by a person close to the team (h/t Raiders Beat).
For fans of the Chargers who have followed Telesco’s roster construction for ten years, it is evident that speed was
never his first priority. The Chargers repeatedly injured the squad by inserting slower players into skill positions.
In fairness, Telesco did mention in April of last year that the Chargers needed to add speed to every position, but that
was ten years after he had to learn his lessons the hard way. Even so, Telesco pointed out that the Chargers didn’t
exactly select the greatest speed threat in the 2023 NFL Draft.
After recording a 4.49 40-yard dash time, Quentin Johnston was selected by Los Angeles with the 21st overall choice.
While Johnston is a fast man, that is by no means slow; yet, there were quicker solutions that proved to be more
advantageous. Zay Flowers was definitely a faster potential, clocking up at 4.42. The Chargers didn’t choose him,
though, because he wasn’t six-four.
It is to be hoped that Telesco has not entirely grown from his errors and is making the same blunders with the
Raiders as he did with the Chargers. Because he might continue to injure the Chargers, but this time with the
Raiders, if he has only recently realized how crucial speed is.
