Since the start of the regular season, Zach LaVine and the Chicago Bulls have been seeking a new beginning together. But with the trade deadline coming up in just one week, LaVine’s trade value is essentially nonexistent due to his patchy play and big contract.
Before it was announced that the Detroit Pistons had shown preliminary interest in signing the starting shooting guard for the Bulls, LaVine had no recognized market.
Detroit, the NBA’s worst club thus far, is searching for a solution of any kind to help them finally climb out of the traditional losing spiral. Is LaVine the solution? He may be unknown at this point, but there’s no doubting that in their backcourt, he would complement former N0.1 overall choice Cade Cunningham quite well. LaVine’s addition to Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, Jaden Ivey, and Jalen Duren provides Detroit with a strong base upon which to grow.
Given how diminished LaVine’s value is across the league, how would a deal for him actually look? The Pistons have a great chance to acquire an All-Star player for a cheap price, but is Chicago really ready to pay dump LaVine? Chicago seems to be seeking actual value instead of an outright monetary escape from the remainder of his deal.
Detroit can at least make a conversation with Chicago about LaVine intriguing because they have the appropriate number of young prospects and draft picks. What might the possible appearance of a package be? Let’s investigate it.

In addition to providing the Bulls with the ideal combination of draft picks and prospects, this kind of deal would include Bogdanovic, a proven winner who they could retain or trade for another player in the future. LaVine appears to have just two options at this point: either play the rest of the season with the Bulls or move to Detroit. Although it’s not the scenario LaVine had in mind, it’s the one that is most likely to come to pass.
The best chance for the Bulls and Pistons to reach a LaVine blockbuster deal is with a package that includes Bogdanovic, many young players, and a draft selection.
