BREAKING: Michigan’s new OC has a message for players considering the transfer portal…

Sherrone Moore was promoted to head coach after Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL. The move was justified by the

team’s need to maintain consistency after winning three consecutive Big Ten titles and a national championship.

Simple, huh? Not so quickly. The NFL has taken Jesse Minter, the defensive coordinator, Jay Harbaugh, the

defensive line coach, Mike Elston, the strength coach, and Ben Herbert, the defensive coordinator, away from the

Wolverines in the past week. Of the four, three have chosen to move to Los Angeles to live with Harbaugh. As one

might anticipate, some people in the background are concerned about possible player defections given the coaching

staff’s increasing losses. Kirk Campbell, the new offensive coordinator at Michigan, responded to a question this

week regarding players thinking about using the transfer portal.

In this week’s “In the Trenches” episode, Campbell stated, “The grass is not always greener.” “These are case-by-case

circumstances, but that doesn’t imply that a location will offer you a better opportunity.”

According to NCAA regulations, players on the roster have an extra 30 days to access the site following Michigan’s

coaching change. It closes on February 23.

The fact that just one person—Reece Atteberry—has used the portal thus far suggests that users are content to listen

and endure the staff shift. Along with Campbell, J.B. Brown, an analyst, has been named special teams coordinator,

and Grant Newsome has been promoted to offensive line coach. It is anticipated that Ron Bellamy will continue to

lead the wide receivers at Michigan.

Campbell went on, “We play at the University of Michigan, the winningest program in college football history.” “We

are national champions in defense. Our squad is stacked with returning players who are extremely talented in every

position. This is the best spot to be at this exact moment.

Donovan Edwards and Colston Loveland, who are back, are important members of the attack, according to

Campbell. Several defensive playmakers are also expected back. In light of the recent losses of Minter and Elston,

Moore is still interviewing candidates for the position of defensive coordinator—a crucial addition. Elston was

instrumental in the development of defensive tackles Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, two key players who were

anticipated to return, even though Minter was the team’s mastermind.

Michigan's promotion of Sherrone Moore doesn't fix the reality of college football
Even if Michigan makes it through this portal window mostly intact, there will be another one scheduled for May 1–

May 15, following the end of spring practice.

“Relax, inhale deeply, and allow everything to sink in,” Campbell said. And you are aware that you are under the

excellent leadership of wonderful individuals. You have excellent personnel and leaders. Here, the culture is

fantastic. And just relish the journey. It remains to be seen whether it is sufficient. A fundraising campaign has been

started by Michigan’s major name, image, and likeness (NIL) collective, “Champions Circle,” to support the retention

of some of the Wolverines’ best players—players that “other schools have been coming after since before the season

ended.” And ever since, the pressure to quit has only increased, particularly since Harbaugh left and numerous

influential people followed.
