Athletic director, Warde Manuel of Michigan is stepping into a new era, much like the College Football Playoffs.
Manuel has been named the leader of the CFP selection committee for the 2024 season, according to a statement
made on Thursday by Bill Hancock, the organization’s executive director. Manuel will succeed NC State athletic
director Boo Corrigan, who chaired the committee for those two seasons, after serving as a member for two seasons.
Warde’s appointment as chair is greatly anticipated, according to a statement from Hancock. “He has contributed
significantly to the committee over the past two years, and his leadership skills will be put to good use.” He will also
be an excellent speaker for the committee to inform supporters of how it arrived at its decision as a former student-
athlete.

surrounding his selection of one-loss SEC champion Alabama over ACC champion Florida State that had never lost,
Corrigan took to the public to defend his choice.
Manuel, on the other hand, has experience handling criticism from the public. Most recently, he came under fire for
failing to land former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh on a long-term contract; Harbaugh chose to leave for the Los
Angeles Chargers in the NFL.
Manuel will now be in charge of the meeting that makes those decisions as Michigan attempts to return to the soon-
to-be-expanded CFP without Harbaugh. As the next chair for the sport in 2024, he will be in charge of choosing the
12-team playoff field.

to the game, I have the utmost regard for the time and work that each committee member puts in every week. It is a
privilege to be asked to lead the committee.
Manuel’s influence on the field that competes for a national championship will also alter as college football evolves as
a sport.
