After Dallas was beaten by the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round, the Cowboys’ postseason run came to an
early stop.
Emmitt Smith, a former running back for the Cowboys, discussed the status of his former team on CBS Sports Radio
on Thursday.
He remarked, “Our team just seems to be lost.” “There is no way I can pinpoint why it looks so awful.”
“If that’s the case, why is Dallas bringing back Mike McCarthy next year?” Smith was then questioned.
“Because I’m not the GM,” was his response.”
“And to tell the truth, I assumed that action would have been taken due to how awful it appeared,” Smith went on. “I
believe that our group and team currently project an image of being a fantastic team and organization, and they
consistently sell this to everyone.” Though I believe there are other things that are far more significant than all of the
excitement, marketing it to people and having the ratings around it are crucial. Although I have never experienced
the Cowboys organization as being overhyped, I believe that our teams are competitive enough to enter the playoffs
and appear to have what it takes to win the championship, yet we don’t That, in my opinion, is a mental block
brought on by players’ preparations for not rising to the occasion and expectations of being the best and
demonstrating their domination as a team and as individuals. And I don’t constantly observe that from our group or
our company.
In 2023, the Cowboys ended with a 12-5 regular season
record. Following the Cowboys’ 48-32 postseason loss to
the Packers, it appeared likely that Jerry Jones, the team’s
owner, would fire McCarthy. However, the head coach’s
contract ends the following year, and he will return for his
fifth season in 2024.
