According to reports, Alabama football is hiring an internal candidate to take over as offensive coordinator.
With Ryan Grubb leaving to join the Seattle Seahawks, Kalen DeBoer will promote former tight ends coach Nick
Sheridan. Sheridan has worked as DeBoer’s coach at Indiana, Washington, and the Crimson Tide right now. Tuesday
morning, 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz announced Sheridan’s elevation.

Sheridan is the son of Bill Sheridan, the current coach of the United Football League and a former NFL defensive
coordinator. In 2008, the younger Sheridan joined the squad as a walk-on and went on to start four games for
Michigan. Sheridan started as a coach at Saline High School in Michigan before going on to teach in Tennessee,
Western Kentucky, and South Florida.
Sheridan has served in a variety of roles from passing game coordinator to quarterbacks coach. He was last an
offensive coordinator in 2020-21 with the Hoosiers, getting promoted under head coach Tom Allen after DeBoer
accepted the Washington job. Then-Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. had a 1,645-yard passing season in 2020
thanks to plays called by Sheridan. A year later, the offensive was only averaging 291.8 yards per game. The following
offseason, a number of coaches were fired, including Allen and Sheridan.
Sheridan will accompany their former boss into the Southeastern Conference along with JaMarcus Shephard,
general manager Courtney Morgan, and assistant director of player personnel Jerret McElwain. It was initially
anticipated that Grubb and offensive line coach Scott Huff would join; however, Huff has accepted a position on
Grubb’s NFL staff.

ideas are called and how we instruct them,” DeBoer said to reporters on January 31 at the Senior Bowl.
In addition, DeBoer stated that coaches will begin implementing his system last week, prior to the public disclosure
of Grubb’s exit. Washington transfers Parker Brailsford (OL), Germie Bernard (wide receiver), and Austin Mack
(quarterback) all have some experience with the team in addition to the coaches. strategy of action.
Other than DeBoer, UA has not yet made an official hiring announcement. Under the direction of former South
Alabama head coach Kane Wommack, the defensive staff looks to be complete. Due to DeBoer’s strength, there are
gaps at the offensive line and now at tight end on the offensive side of the ball.
The spring schedule for Alabama is still pending. On April 13, DeBoer will play his first A-Day spring game at Bryant-
Denny Stadium.
