RIGHT IN: Raiders hires New offensive line coach…

According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Las Vegas Raiders have added James Cregg as their offensive line coach,

making another change to their coaching staff.

According to a source, James Cregg will be joining the Raiders as their next offensive line coach. The former LSU

assistant OL coach was also a coach with the 49ers.

The 50-year-old Cregg assisted in leading the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl run during his tenure as assistant

offensive line coach. He was recruited by the 49ers in 2022, and this was his second season there.

The Norco, California native had been an All-Conference offensive tackle at Colorado State during his time as a

collegiate football player in the mid-1990s. In addition, he started his coaching career there as a graduate assistant

before moving on to Idaho and Colgate.

This is Cregg’s second tenure with the team in two distinct cities after making his NFL debut in 2007 with the then-

Oakland Raiders as the Silver and Black’s assistant offensive line coach for two seasons.

He was on Lane Kiffin’s staff and accompanied the former Raider to USC and Tennessee, where he was the offensive

line coach for both institutions.

After that, Cregg played a few more seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers, almost

leading his teams to an AFC West championship by coaching three of the four clubs in the division.

His tenure as LSU’s offensive line coach and running game coordinator from 2018 to 2020 was his most fruitful

period as a coach. The coach, who has a lot of travel experience, was a member of the Tigers’ National Championship

squad in 2019—a club that broke multiple offensive records and took home the Joe Moore Award for the best

offensive line in college football.

Although the Raiders matched for the 12th-fewest sack total in the NFL last season with a run-blocking grade of 73.9

from Pro Football Focus, Cregg will take over an offensive line that allowed 40 sacks. In contrast, the 49ers allowed

just 34 sacks, which ranked eighth in the league, and ranked second with a 92.1 ground game percentage.

There are also some unanswered questions in Las Vegas that the new coach will need to address. Although Dylan

Parham, a left guard entering his third season, would be better suited to go to center, Andre James, Greg Van Roten,

and Jermaine Eluemunor, the right guard and right tackle from last season, are all upcoming free agents.

Additionally, Cregg will have to assist in deciding whether the team should target a different player in the draft or

free agency, or whether swing tackle Thayer Munford Jr., a third-year veteran, can replace Eluemunor.
