In Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25–22 in overtime. Isaiah Buggs and Montrell Washington did not play in the game. However, Kansas City might be on the field for the upcoming NFL championship game if they succeed in their promised attempt at a three-peat in 2024.
During Kansas community’s postseason triumphs, Buggs and Washington were members of the practice squad. On Wednesday, the team and the community celebrated the awarding of another NFL championship. Eight players were announced as having signed reserve/future contracts to remain with the organization.

On March 13, the opening day of the NFL’s 2024 business year, an NFL team may add a player to a reserve/future contract when the roster grows from 53 to 90 players for the offseason. The recently signed players are now qualified to take part in minicamps, OTAs, and offseason training.
Reserve/future contracts can only be signed by players who are not already on NFL active rosters.
Buggs, a defensive lineman from Alabama, played a majority of his sixth NFL season with the Detroit Lions. When Detroit dismissed him on January 2, he had appeared in ten games, including three starts. Two days later, Buggs was added to the practice squad by Kansas City, where he remained until the Super Bowl.

After being waived by the Denver Broncos at the end of the preseason, Washington, a former wide receiver for Samford, joined Kansas City’s practice squad. He played for the Chiefs for the duration of the season, spending some time on the active roster. He returned eight punts for 61 yards and one kickoff for 20 yards in six regular-season games.
