Garoppolo’s two-game ban for violating the PED code has provided the Raiders with a swift and simple way out of
paying $11.25 million in 2024, which was fully guaranteed.
In the second year of his three-year contract, one of the ways to nullify the guaranteed payout is for there to be a
suspension under the PED policy.

Given that they would owe him the $11.25 million salary, less any money he would have made elsewhere in the
upcoming season, the Raiders probably would have waived him before his $11.25 million roster bonus was due the
following month. The ban turns out to be an eight-figure gift for the Raiders and owner Mark Davis, as well as a
gravely careless mistake by a player whose 2024 guaranteed salary has dropped from $11.25 million to zero
dollars and zero cents.
