The 2024 draft will be held in Detroit. The draft moves to Green Bay the following year. In actuality, Pittsburgh will have hosted the draft before. Rutter points out that in December 1947, the 1948 draft took place at the Fort Pitt hotel.
The Steelers selected quarterback Bobby Layne with the third overall pick of that particular draft year. His rights were sold to the Bears; he had no desire to play for the Steelers. He touched down with the Lions in 1950. He was dealt back to the Steelers eight years later.
