JUST IN: Packers Just Indicated They’re Moving On From Starter With 67 Career Games

In regards to their roster, the Green Bay Packers will have to make some difficult decisions this off-season. Even while 2023 was a fantastic starting point for the franchise, there will undoubtedly be some adjustments. Today, that became even more clear.

Nijman making a name for himself as Packers' fill-in tackle

It looks like Yosh Nijman is headed out of Green Bay. If they were planning on keeping him, it would have made far more sense to extend their deal and avoid the dead cap hit. With Green Bay, the seasoned offensive lineman has played in 67 games, starting 22 of them. Restrictive free agency signings last offseason paid Nijman far less than the going rate for a starting tackle who is on the edge of the starting lineup. As Zach Tom and Rasheed Walker became more prominent, Nijman found himself playing swing tackle for the majority of 2023. All of this resulted from David Bakhtiari, a left tackle, missing all but one game of the previous campaign. Given Green Bay’s ongoing financial crunch, it is reasonable to presume he will sign a free agent contract elsewhere.

It would have been more economical for the Packers to have extended Savage, Nijman, and Nixon before to the start of their void provisions if they had wanted to bring them back for 2024.
Prolonging would have prevented:
-$4.1M for Savage; -$1.9M for Nijman; -$1.1M for Nixon
