The 21-year-old guy who had his leg amputated following a car accident involving Miami Heat big Haywood
Highsmith is suing the NBA player.
Alekxei Pino filed the lawsuit in Florida on Friday, stating that he was assisting a stranded driver on February 6
when Highsmith struck him in his 2021 Audi A5.
According to the lawsuit, Highsmith was exceeding the speed limit prior to the collision, which caused Pino to lose
part of his leg above the knee. Pino claims he underwent numerous surgeries as a result of other injuries he
sustained in the collision.

Pino, who is currently in the hospital getting well, has a “very long road of rehabilitation ahead of him,” according to
his lawyer, Manuel Dobrinsky.
Unspecified damages believed to exceed $50,000 are sought in the lawsuit.
To aid in Pino’s recuperation, his family has established a GoFundMe with the goal of raising $100,000.
After the Heat defeated the Orlando Magic, Highsmith was driving at 45 mph in a 40 mph zone, according to a police
complaint.
Although they think alcohol and drugs had no role, police speculate that Highsmith might have been distracted. It
resulted in a citation for reckless driving for him.
Following the collision, the Miami Heat issued a statement expressing their “hearts go out to those who were
injured.”

The night following the collision, Highsmith did not participate in a game against the San Antonio Spurs; but, on
February 11, he made a comeback against the Boston Celtics.
Highsmith is averaging 5.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists a game this season while playing 21 minutes a night.
In 40 games, he has appeared and started 24.
