Chris Mortensen, a longtime ESPN reporter, passed away. On Sunday, ESPN announced the news of Mortensen’s passing.
As a trailblazing member of the industry, Mort was adored by all for being a devoted, helpful teammate. He was a superb and passionate NFL reporter who excelled in his business for many years. ESPN president Jimmy Pitaro stated in a statement, “He will be sincerely missed by colleagues and fans, and our hearts and thoughts are with his loved ones.”

Before declaring his retirement, Mortensen covered his 33rd NFL Draft for ESPN the previous year. At the time, he declared his intention to “focus on my faith, family, and health.”
Mortensen revealed his diagnosis of Stage IV throat cancer back in 2016. After months of effective therapy, he took a leave of absence but later that year announced that almost all of the cancer had disappeared.
Among the several people who paid respect to the multi-award winning NFL insider was Adam Schefter, who collaborated with Mortensen for many years.

In 1991, Mortensen started working for ESPN. Before that, he was employed by The National and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
