SAD NEWS: Miami Heat missed guard For Surgery…

Josh Richardson, the guard for the Miami Heat, underwent surgery on his right shoulder and will be out for the rest

of the campaign.

The Miami Herald reports that Richardson, 30, will have surgery early on Wednesday. Since his shoulder dislocated

during a home loss to the Boston Celtics on February 11, he has been out.

Boston Celtics Coach Ime Udoka's Big Challenge: Fixing Josh Richardson

“Richardson, 30, accompanied the team on last week’s Western swing with the expectation that he would return

soon,” the Miami Herald reports. However, surgery was finally decided to be the best option.

Due to surgery to rehabilitate his right shoulder, Josh Richardson will be sidelined for the rest of the season, which

means the Heat will be missing a vital player from their rotation.

After joining Miami last summer, Richardson, who started his career with the Heat, will end the campaign with an

average of 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists on 44.4% shooting (34.7% from three) in 43 games (six starts).

He decided to have surgery after missing the previous eight games.

The injury happened during the second quarter of the game on February 11 following a futile attempt to take the ball

away from Celtics forward Jayson Tatum. He gave way in agony to the ground and left the game.

“I felt my shoulder pop out on the floor and then it popped back in laying on the ground, so thank goodness for that,”

Richardson recalled at the time. “I’ll know more tomorrow.”

Richardson was possibly having one of his best basketball seasons at the moment. In four of his previous seven

games, he had scored ten or more points, and throughout that time, he had shot forty percent from three. For the

upcoming season, he has a $3 million player option.

The Heat decided to add Patty Mills to the roster on Wednesday in an effort to improve the team’s guard depth

following Richardson’s long-term injury. To make room on the roster for Mills, they waived Dru Smith.

Since the start of the season, the Heat have entirely changed their point guard lineup, going from Terry Rozier, Delon

Wright, and Mills to Kyle Lowry, Richardson, and Smith.
