RIGHT IN: Bears Took Pro-Bowl pass rusher…

Brian Burns, a pass-rushing target for the Chicago Bears who has been linked to the Carolina Panthers, is anticipated

to receive the franchise tag.

Over the previous two seasons, the Bears have made multiple attempts to trade for Burns. The Bears considered

Burns during their first trade discussions during the off-season, but they finally decided to trade for wide receiver

D.J. Moore, who was part of the package they obtained in exchange for the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Although Burns receiving the franchise tag this off-season was always the most likely course of action, reports also

indicate that the Carolina Panthers are not pursuing contract negotiations with the two-time Pro Bowler. Given the

need the Panthers have on the defensive line, it appears likely that Poles will give them another call this off-season.

The problem is that the Bears might not have the means to complete the transaction.

It appears that the Bears do not have enough first-round picks available to execute a deal that would persuade the

Panthers to move for Burns, unless they trade away the first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft—a situation that does not

appear possible.

Panthers Table Contract Talks with Brian Burns

Danielle Hunter is a free agent whose name has frequently been associated with the Bears; nevertheless, a veteran

like Jadaveon Clowney might seek a higher type of contract.
