In an attempt to free up cap space before the new league year kicks off on Wednesday, several teams across the
league have made some noteworthy roster moves as the free agency part of the 2024 NFL offseason draws near.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are said to have made a decision on Friday that will free up about $7 million in cap space.
With one year left on his contract, veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson of the Steelers has chosen to be released,
according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

According to his contract, Peterson was entitled to a $3 million roster bonus, which became fully guaranteed on
March 16.
However, Pittsburgh no longer needs to pay the veteran defensive back that $3 million because they parted ways
with him on Friday, and Spotrac reports that this frees up an extra $6.85 million in salary space for this summer.
After playing the first two years of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, Peterson inked a $14 million, two-
year contract with the Steelers during the 2023 offseason.

Last season, he played in 17 games for Pittsburgh and recorded 42 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions.
Peterson, who turns 34 in July, has been a member of the league since the 2011 NFL Draft, when he was selected by
the Arizona Cardinals with the fifth overall pick.
Is it likely that he will pursue a career in the NFL in 2024, or have we seen the last of the All-Pro cornerback?
