NEW BID: Michigan Football officially announces four defensive staff hires…

The staff of Michigan is formally recognized. Four defensive line appointments that have been rumored for some

time have been confirmed. The Michigan program stated in a press release on Friday afternoon that they had hired

LaMar Morgan as the pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach, Greg Scruggs as the defensive line coach,

Brian Jean-Mary as the linebackers coach, and Wink Martindale as the defensive coordinator. Brad Hawkins, a

former defensive back, was also hired by Michigan as a graduate assistant coach.

Sherrone Moore discussed the contributions that every recruit will make to the Michigan program in the press

release.

“I’ve known Greg since our time at Louisville, and I’ve always valued his tenacity and enthusiasm for the sport. We’ve

been in touch over the years, and I’ve always known that Greg would make an excellent program leader and

instructor, one that I had the good fortune to put together. Both as a football coach and a person, Greg excels. He will

help our players reach their football goals and be an excellent mentor, particularly for the lads on the defensive line.”

“Brian has long been a part of my network of coaches. I have had the good fortune to work with and learn from him

at two separate colleges (Louisville and Michigan). He is an excellent coach and communicator. Brian is a fantastic

player developer and recruiter, so I’m thrilled to have him in charge of our linebacking corps. He will immediately

return and contribute significantly to our team and program because he is familiar with both our university and

program.”

”It has been a pleasure getting to know LaMar during this process. Jesse Minter highly suggested him, and

throughout our talks, I was able to see why he is regarded as one of the best defensive backs coaches in the industry.

He is a gifted educator and speaker, and his enthusiasm for both football and assisting young men in realizing their

dreams came through in the interview. LaMar will be coaching our defensive secondary and running the passing

game, which excites me.”

There will be a lot more information on these hires soon, including the contributions they can all make to the

program. Every coach has accomplished noteworthy feats that merit discussion. In summary, despite changes over

the past few seasons, Michigan’s defensive unit has excelled, and this level will be maintained in the upcoming

campaign with notable players like Mason Graham, Will Johnson, and Kenneth Grant rejoining the team.
