On Tuesday, the Washington Commanders signed former Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn to a contract,
continuing their onslaught of free-agent signings.
The initial announcement of the $5.1 million, one-year contract came from Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.
The 26-year-old safety spent four seasons with the Carolina Panthers, where he recorded over 300 tackles, three
forced fumbles, and 17 pass deflections.

The 2020 second-round selection entered the league as a versatile player who could play traditional safety duties
deep in the secondary or close to the line of scrimmage like a linebacker. The adaptable skill set of the Southern
Illinois graduate complements the defensive philosophy of new coach Dan Quinn.
When Quinn was the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator, he created a flexible system that frequently moved pass
rushers to different positions on the line and used safeties inside the box.

There were obvious gaps in the secondary and the trenches when the Commanders went into the offseason. Chinn is
the first defensive back the team has struck an agreement with this offseason, despite the fact that Washington has
previously committed to terms with a number of lineman. The 2023 Washington starting safety Kam Curl, a free
agency, left a void that the safety is expected to cover.
