Even though the initial frenzy surrounding NFL free agency has subsided, teams are still actively building their
rosters with the best players still available. The Cleveland Browns have already made their major moves by re-
signing their core players and adding Jameis Winston and Jerry Jeudy. On Wednesday, they also lost Mike Ford, a
crucial member of the special team, but they wasted no time in adding his replacement.
Tony Brown, an elite special teams player and cornerback, is reportedly inked by the Browns to a one-year contract,
according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson. Prior to joining the Browns, Brown played two seasons with the
Indianapolis Colts, starting with Bubba Ventrone, the current special teams coordinator. The two will be getting back
together in Cleveland following a fruitful time spent in Indianapolis.

Before joining the Green Bay Packers in 2018, Alabama native Brown was an undrafted free agent. With his stature
and quickness, he was always more of a special teams player, but in his early career, he played a lot of defensive
snaps in the backfield.
He played just 65 defensive snaps with the Colts in the last two seasons, almost all of which were spent on special
teams (he has over 500 ST snaps).
Even though Mike Ford was excellent for the Browns in the previous season, he inked a $4.5 million, two-year
contract with the Houston Texans. That was a rather generous deal for a special teams player, especially for a team
like the Browns that had minimal salary space. Seeking a less expensive alternative, as Cleveland did with Ford when
they signed him as a free agent last season, made more sense.
