Before Opening Day, is there one more player the Boston Red Sox could add?
Former All-Star Lucas Giolito was undoubtedly the greatest addition to Boston’s starting rotation this offseason, but
he will be out for the 2024 campaign due to injury.

The Red Sox could use at least one more addition before the 2024 season begins because their pitching depth is
lacking.
Although it appears that Boston is unwilling to spend a lot of money on guys like Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery,
there are other players that might be added without going over budget.
Michael Lorenzen, a 2023 All-Star, is one of the most fascinating players still available in free agency. The
journeyman righty is still available despite having an excellent 2023 year with the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia
Phillies.
Although it’s uncertain where he will end up, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that he threw a bullpen for clubs
on Sunday.
“Free-agent (right-handed pitcher) Michael Lorenzen threw 70 pitches yesterday, getting up and down four times,
hitting 94 to 96 mph with his fastball, according to a report viewed by The Athletic,” Rosenthal stated.
Lorenzen was most effective with the Tigers prior to being traded, although he finished the season with a 4.18 ERA in
29 appearances. With a 3.58 ERA through his first 18 starts, he may be a good choice for Boston in 2024 if he could
continue to perform at that caliber.

The bullpen and offense of the Red Sox appear to be in fine shape, but the rotation needs some help. Why not sign
the right-hand veteran?
