Despite having free agency choices, Trent Brown signed a one-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. When
explaining his choice, Brown cited the pre-existing roster and the chance to play a significant amount of snaps as his
two main driving forces.
“Just the pieces that are already in place,” explained Brown’s reasoning for choosing Cincinnati. “I feel like it’s a plug
and play situation, and the chance to go win.”
Brown believes that playing for the Bengals will allow him to concentrate on football in a setting that suits him.
“I feel like I’ll be worried less and be able to worry about playing football,” Brown stated. “I can just enjoy going to
work every day because I won’t have to worry about anything off the field. And when we discuss fit, that was also
crucial.”
Brown helps the Bengals fill a significant need.
Brown is expected to fill the void left by Jonah Williams’ free agency departure from Cincinnati’s offensive line.
Throughout his career, he has played both left and right tackle, so he offers the offensive a wealth of experience and
versatility. Orlando Brown Jr. is expected to play on the other side, and he is expected to play on the right side for the
Bengals.
The arrival of Brown may also change Cincinnati’s draft approach by giving them more alternatives in the first
round. Many analysts project that the Bengals will select an offensive lineman with their first pick, but maybe they
will decide to go a different route after acquiring Brown.

However, Brown is thirty years old and has almost ten years of professional experience under his belt. As such, he
may not be the Bengals’ long-term solution. Therefore, even if the line isn’t selected in the first round, the team
would still be smart to strengthen it in the draft.
