After slashing Toronto Maple Leafs winger Noah Gregor in the face on Wednesday, Washington Capitals forward has
been suspended for six games, according to the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.
Wilson could face a six-game suspension or longer for the action, and he was given the option of an in-person
hearing. Wilson was given a minor penalty for the play, which happened during the third period of play. The Leafs
proceeded to triumph 7-3. Wilson can suit up for the Capitals again on April 4 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Toronto native has served five suspensions since entering the NHL in 2013. Among those suspensions were
three in the 2017–18 campaign, which resulted in a three-game suspension during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
For a brutal hit on Oskar Sundqvist during the 2018 preseason, Wilson received an infamous 20-game suspension.
In the end, the suspension was lowered to 14 games. That was the final time he was suspended or punished by the
league.
Wilson has also received three separate fines. When Wilson was selected 16th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft, he has
played for the Caps his entire NHL career.
With his more aggressive style of play, Wilson became a fan favorite in Washington very fast. In 2018, he helped the
Caps win the Stanley Cup after recording the most hits in the playoffs with 100.
In 66 games this season, including a trip to Toronto to take part in the 2024 NHL all-star game, Wilson has 32 points
and 120 penalty minutes. In 746 games over 12 NHL seasons, Wilson has 145 goals, 327 points, 1,419 penalty
minutes, and an additional 31 points in 83 games over nine postseason campaigns.
The Caps will host Winnipeg on Sunday after playing Carolina at home on Friday night. On March 26, they will
conclude their home stand against the Detroit Red Wings. On Thursday, they will travel to Toronto in hopes of
retaliating against the Leafs at Scotiabank Arena.
