JUST NOW: Chiefs Named ‘Best Fit’ for Top Remaining Free Agent Cornerback…

The Kansas City Chiefs’ starting cornerback position isn’t terrific, especially with all the uncertainty surrounding a

possible trade for L’Jarius Sneed (and the possibility that he may leave in the offseason even if he isn’t dealt). Even if

they don’t have a lot of cap room, they could need to look elsewhere for a new hire for the role.

Chiefs supporters will appreciate what ESPN’s Bill Barnwell had to say about their prospects of obtaining the finest

available free agent after he examined the best places for the 20 remaining players.

Chiefs Rumors Xavien Howard a Free Agent Target?

Barnwell determined that former Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard would be “best fit” with the Chiefs. Howard, a

two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler, is without a doubt the greatest cornerback still available in free agency.

Although Howard had a difficult year in 2023, we shouldn’t assume he’s lost a lot of ground or is too old to be doing

anything meaningful because he’s only thirty years old. Plus, even in a “down year” by Howard’s estimation, you can

still hold opposition quarterbacks to an 86.7 passer rating when you target them with coverage.

Although Howard has stated that he would like to play for a contender, Barnwell emphasizes that the Chiefs are a

great fit for him because of his man-to-man coverage abilities and ability to produce takeaways (he led the league in

interceptions in 2018 and 2020).

Next season, the Chiefs are +650 to win another Super Bowl, despite the uncertainty at cornerback.

They could need a player like Howard to make the leap back to the top once more.
