JUST NOW: Contract Details Revealed for New Steelers Safety DeShon Elliott…

DeShon Elliott, the new safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has made his contract details public.

Elliott’s two-year, $6 million contract only includes $1.5 million in guaranteed money, which comes in the form of a signing bonus Elliott received this year, according to the NFLPA. In 2024, his base pay will be $1.5 million, and in 2025, it will be $3 million.

Elliott’s cap impact for the 2024 season will therefore be $2.25 million, which is marginally less than what we predicted in our most recent salary cap update.

Now that Elliott’s pay has been revealed, the team’s salary cap status can be slightly updated. The Steelers’ offseason salary cap space is roughly $14.3 million.

That is subject to the disclaimer that we have not yet seen Van Jefferson’s new wide receiver contract specifics. This update does not contain him.

Even so, the total amount can be deceptive. They will have to pay workout bonuses, sign their rookie class, sign a practice squad, account for players on injured reserve, account for the 52nd and 53rd players on the roster, and leave room for in-season signings prior to the 2024 regular season starting.

After this weekend’s actions, the Steelers will once more need to put in some effort to receive a salary cap complaint before the season begins. They have effectively exceeded their own in-season pay cap by $4.5 million.

The Steelers can terminate, renegotiate, or extend the contracts of a number of veteran players, such as Alex Highsmith, Larry Ogunjobi, Cam Heyward, and Minkah Fitzpatrick, in order to save even more money.
