This penultimate weekend of spring training seems to be the Red Sox deciding their Opening Day roster.
According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive, Boston is allegedly inking right-hand pitcher Chase Anderson to a major
league contract.
According to Cotillo, the 36-year-old is anticipated to start the 2024 regular season for the Red Sox as a “multi-
inning” reliever. According to Cotillo, Anderson will also be a spot starter for the group.
During spring training this year, Anderson, who ended 2023 with the Colorado Rockies, visited the Pittsburgh
Pirates. On March 23, he chose to opt out of his minor league contract with the Pirates, so Red Sox chief baseball
officer Craig Breslow was quick to select the righty.

Throughout his ten-year MLB career, Anderson has mostly been utilized as a starting pitcher; so, Boston is
purportedly interested in having him make pinch starts when necessary. But for the time being, Anderson will open
the season with the Red Sox as a mass relief pitcher alongside Josh Winckwoski.
During the previous season, the right-hander made 19 total appearances with 17 starts and a 5.42 earned run
average. Anderson pitched 81 ⅓ innings, giving up 17 home runs and 64 strikeouts.
Despite starting most of his games, Anderson has not logged over 100 strikeouts or more than 100 innings pitched
since 2019.
