The Kansas City Chiefs and free agency quarterback Carson Wentz have reached a one-year contract, an ESPN
source confirmed.
After being without a team for the first half of the season, Wentz signed with the Rams in Week 10 as their backup
quarterback. With two years left on his contract, he was released in February 2023 after playing for the Washington
Commanders during the 2022 season.

Since Los Angeles was resting quarterback Matthew Stafford, Wentz, 31, got the start for the Rams against the San
Francisco 49ers in the regularly scheduled season finale. For 163 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, he
completed 17 of 24 passes. With 56 yards and a touchdown on just 17 carries, he also topped both teams in rushing
yards.
The Philadelphia Eagles selected Wentz with the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, and he spent six seasons
with the team. After losing his starting position to Jalen Hurts in the 2020 season, he was dealt to the Indianapolis
Colts. With the Colts, Wentz tied a career low with seven interceptions while throwing 27 touchdown passes.
However, he struggled in the club’s final two games, which it needed to win just one to qualify for the playoffs,
raising doubts about his future with the organization.

Following the 2021 season, Washington acquired Wentz by handing the Colts two third-round picks in addition to
two second-round picks in exchange. He threw nine interceptions and eleven touchdowns in eight games as a
Commander. He was late with a broken finger before he was benched in favor of Taylor Heinicke.
Wentz has completed 62.7% of his throws for 22,292 yards, 153 touchdowns, and 67 interceptions in eight NFL
seasons.
